About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continuous access to innovation. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers and specialists working on challenging problems within the cloud infrastructure. The Mechanical Engineer will join a global data center engineering team focused on the design and continuous innovation within AWS's rapidly expanding data center footprint. The role involves taking full ownership to design resilient, cost-effective mechanical systems to achieve world-class uptime for customers, driving continuous advancements, and communicating technical direction. The position offers the opportunity to drive change and make a substantial impact on systems customers rely on, working collaboratively with internal and external groups, including manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. The role involves working on multi-million-dollar designs and supporting a wide variety of customers, with ingenuity being a key mechanism for quality, speed, and cost.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with ability to influence and drive others.

  • Advises peer engineers and management team.
  • Deep-dive and perform root cause analysis.
  • Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
  • Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.
  • Simplify, optimize and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub components.
  • Define and design liquid cooling equipment and related infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
  • Support field engineering and data center operation teams for performing root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
  • Maintain and develop technical design procedures associated with piping and pipe support analysis activities.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management and partner teams.
  • Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
  • Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating ownership.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub components.
  • Provide product design support to other team members.
  • Writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestic and internationally for up to 25% of the year.
