The Mechanical / Processes Technical Lead provides subject matter leadership for all mechanical and process systems associated with the Corpus Christi Desalination Plant. This role is responsible for ensuring that desalination process design, mechanical systems, and equipment selections are technically sound, constructible, reliable, energy efficient, and aligned with contractual performance requirements. The role serves as the go to technical authority for seawater desalination process systems and mechanical equipment, working closely with the Engineering Manager, Construction team, Operations stakeholders, vendors, and external engineers to support design development, construction, commissioning, and handover into operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline, master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in mechanical/process engineering for water, wastewater, or desalination facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plants or advanced water treatment facilities.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with pumps, pressure systems, piping networks, chemical systems, and hydraulic design.
  • Deep technical expertise in desalination process and mechanical systems
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Cross‑disciplinary coordination and communication
  • Practical, operations‑focused engineering mindset
  • Ability to support field execution and commissioning activities

  • Experience supporting EPC, design‑build, or DBO project delivery preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical development and oversight of desalination treatment processes, including pretreatment, reverse osmosis, post‑treatment, cleaning systems, and associated utility systems.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise for mechanical equipment and systems, including pumps, pressure vessels, energy recovery devices, piping systems, valves, chemical dosing systems, and ancillary plant systems.
  • Support development of process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, hydraulic profiles, and process calculations.
  • Act as the primary mechanical/process technical escalation point for the project.
  • Review and approve mechanical and process engineering deliverables prepared by internal teams, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ensure designs comply with contract requirements, applicable codes and standards (AWWA, ASME, ASTM, API, OSHA), and desalination best practices.
  • Participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, HAZOP/HAZID sessions, and constructability reviews.
  • Support engineering change evaluation and resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Ensures the mechanical Design meets required maturity at each milestone.
  • Support the estimation process for all mechanical procurement and installation
  • Support procurement activities related to major mechanical and process equipment.
  • Review vendor technical submittals, datasheets, drawings, and calculations.
  • Participate in vendor evaluations, FATs, and technical negotiations as required.
  • Ensure vendor designs are fully integrated with plant mechanical and process systems.
  • Provide technical support during construction to address RFIs, field clarifications, and installation issues.
  • Support mechanical completion, pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and performance testing.
  • Coordinate with Operations and O&M teams to ensure systems are operable, maintainable, and aligned with long‑term operational strategies.
  • Support troubleshooting during start‑up and early operations.
  • Ensure mechanical and process designs support safe construction and operation of the facility.
  • Support compliance with environmental permits and discharge requirements as they relate to process and mechanical systems.
  • Contribute to technical documentation turnover including O&M manuals and as‑built records.
