The Mechanical & Piping Technical Specialist IV is responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of designers when functioning as a lead designer. This role involves the total delivery of mechanical and piping deliverables and services, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality expectations. The position requires minimal supervision and will be based in the Beaumont, TX office. Responsibilities include adhering to department design and drafting standards, recognizing and communicating project scope, specifications, and design criteria, as well as promptly identifying and communicating scope and design changes. The role also involves providing on-site assistance during startup, offering technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel, and coordinating work activities with other staff members and the discipline lead. Producing mechanical and piping installation specifications with engineering review and approval, understanding the skills and experience needed for design functions, and proactively leading and coordinating design staff efforts to meet scope, schedule, and budget objectives are key aspects of this position. Additionally, the role includes mentoring subordinates, participating in squad checks for interdisciplinary coordination, checking calculations performed by other designers for accuracy and compliance, determining construction quantities, and providing construction cost estimates. The specialist will delegate work based on technical skills and experience, follow up to ensure progress and quality, and consult with design leaders from other disciplines. Participation in planning training programs, continuous education, and professional development of staff is also expected.
