About The Position

Domtar’s Plymouth, North Carolina mill is hiring a Mechanical Maintenance Journeyman. The role keeps equipment and machinery operational through maintenance, preventive maintenance, fabrication, replacement, installation, and rebuilding of parts and equipment. Applicants may test in Millwright, Pipefitter, Welder, and/or Machinist skills; candidates with journeyman-level experience in multiple skills may test in those skills as well. Hired employees must participate in a structured apprentice program and be able to advance to a total of three skills, with additional skills assigned according to mill needs. The job is full-time and permanent. Rotating shifts may be required, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must complete the selection process, which may include aptitude tests, interviews, practical skills demonstrations, background and reference checks, drug screening, and fitness-for-duty testing for some positions.

Requirements

At least two years of industrial maintenance experience as a Journeyman Mechanic (Millwright, Pipefitter, Welder, or Machinist), or an associate degree in the mechanical maintenance field.
High school diploma or GED.
Successfully complete a technical mechanical assessment.
Available to work varying hours, including possible shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Able to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to emergency call-ins.
Pass the pre-employment background check and drug screen.
Wear required personal protective equipment.
Able to work in industrial conditions, including warm or hot, dusty or dirty environments; around hazardous chemicals, noise, and heavy machinery; and at heights with proper safety training and protection.
Successfully complete the selection process, which may include aptitude tests, interviews, practical skills demonstrations, background investigation, reference verification, drug and alcohol screening, and fitness-for-duty testing for some positions.
Able to advance to a total of three skills within the structured apprentice program if hired.

Nice To Haves

Experience in the pulp and paper industry is considered an asset.
Journeyman-level experience in more than one of the listed skills (Millwright, Pipefitter, Welder, or Machinist).
