This role may be filled at the Apprentice or Journey level dependent upon qualifications. The Mechanical Maintenance position involves performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on power station equipment, machines, and structures. This includes welding and cutting using both gas and electric welders. The role requires making general repairs on plant equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors, pulverizers, gear reducers, buildings, and structures. It also involves making repair parts for mechanical equipment, rebabitting small bearings, and aligning and adjusting mechanical equipment. Responsibilities include cutting, installing, and repairing pipes, valves, traps, and fittings on various lines, rigging equipment for lifting, and fabricating sheet metal/steel. The position entails installing new equipment, overhauling, repairing, and rearranging old equipment, and operating mobile equipment for maintenance and installation. Preventive maintenance activities are also a key part of the role. Additional duties may include miscellaneous painting, maintaining shop equipment and tools, directing and instructing other employees, and assisting plant or coal operations. A commitment to being fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse is mandatory. The listed duties are a general overview and may be plant-specific.
