About The Position

The Maintenance Intern will assist with installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, overhauling, diagnosing, testing, and maintaining all power plant and auxiliary equipment and systems. This role provides environmental and safety stewardship, ensures compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations and plant procedures, and assists in maintaining all equipment in optimum operating condition. The intern will also assist in reviewing maintenance procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in a two or four-year mechanical technical degree program, mechanical engineering degree program or equivalent.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must be available for a 13-week program beginning in late May to early August.
  • Knowledge of power plant or related industry equipment, systems, and drawings.
  • Knowledge of safe operating and maintenance procedures/practices.
  • Knowledge of safety, health, and environmental hazards associated with rotating equipment and power plant processes.
  • Knowledge of steam power plant operations and mechanical equipment maintenance and a working knowledge of the steam cycle and auxiliary systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and others.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

  • Work in close quarters.
  • Work from elevated positions, walk or climb up and down stairways and ladders and climb on and off of equipment.
  • Must be able to bend or stoop for a full shift.
  • Comfortable working on grated flooring.
  • Don and wear required safety equipment including respirators, hearing and eye protection, and protective clothing.
  • Will work in confined work areas and will be subjected to extremes of ambient temperature.
  • Will encounter noise levels that will necessitate the wearing of hearing protection.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all mechanical equipment as required to support plant operations and optimize equipment value.
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to maintain and control work order system spare parts inventory.
  • Practice environmental and safety stewardship.
  • Assist in equipment or system problem identification and recommend solutions.
  • Assist as needed in the development of maintenance procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.
  • Adhere to all Safety, Environmental, and Plant procedures.
  • Assist in requisitioning parts and supplies.
  • Perform other duties, including non-core responsibilities as directed.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings.
  • Perform housekeeping activities as required.

Benefits

  • The base pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this role is $25.00 per hour for the Undergraduate level and $28.00 per hour for the Graduate level.
