About The Position

The Mechanical Intern will gain hands-on experience with a commercial mechanical contractor, supporting active construction projects through exposure to project engineering, mechanical design, and shop fabrication operations. This internship is designed to provide practical, real-world experience in HVAC and plumbing systems, construction processes, and coordination between the field, office, and fabrication shop.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program related to: Mechanical Engineering Construction Management Architectural/Engineering Technology Drafting, Design, or a related technical field
  • Interest in commercial HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical construction
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); exposure to CAD/BIM software is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work in both office and shop environments
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Comfortable asking questions and seeking feedback
  • Follow all company safety policies and jobsite/shop safety procedures
  • Ask questions, take notes, and actively engage in learning opportunities
  • Complete assigned training modules or shadowing activities
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • May require standing, walking, or observing shop operations
  • Must adhere to PPE and safety requirements in shop and field environments

Responsibilities

  • Project Engineering Support Assist Project Engineers with daily project tasks, including: Reviewing mechanical drawings and specifications Tracking RFIs, submittals, and change documentation Updating project logs, schedules, and material tracking Participate in project meetings and coordination efforts with field personnel, vendors, and subcontractors Perform basic quantity takeoffs and assist with cost tracking
  • Design & Engineering Exposure Support design staff with drafting and modeling tasks under supervision Assist with layout of mechanical systems using CAD or BIM software (as applicable) Review design documents to understand system routing, equipment selection, and constructability Learn how designs are developed from concept through construction
  • Fabrication Shop Experience Rotate through the fabrication shop to observe and assist with: Sheet metal and/or piping fabrication processes Use of shop drawings and spool sheets Quality control and safety practices Gain understanding of how shop fabrication supports field installation and project efficiency
  • General Learning & Development Follow all company safety policies and jobsite/shop safety procedures Ask questions, take notes, and actively engage in learning opportunities Complete assigned training modules or shadowing activities Assist with special projects as assigned
