The position is located in Huntsville, Alabama. The ideal candidate has exceptional manual dexterity and spatial reasoning, strong communication and teamwork skills, and experience with general fabrication processes, additive manufacturing, and safety practices.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly, electromechanical integration, micro-assembly, or a related technical field.
  • Exceptional manual dexterity, hand-tool skills, and hand-eye coordination, with demonstrated ability to work with small, delicate components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and step-by-step build instructions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a proven track record of working on and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • Must be able to lift and move 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in office, workshop, and outdoor environments, including moving, sitting, traversing ladders, stairs, and uneven terrain, seeing fine detail, and hearing verbal instructions.
  • Must be willing to work directly with hazardous materials and meticulously comply with associated safety and security protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Existing final SECRET or higher security clearance.
  • Experience working in ESD-sensitive and HAZMAT environments.
  • Eligibility for a Commercial Driver’s License and HAZMAT endorsement.
  • Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, modifying, and troubleshooting FDM (filament) and SLA/DLP (resin) printers.
  • Working knowledge of print optimization, including layer heights, infill patterns, print orientation, support design, and post-processing such as support removal, sanding, and curing.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication processes such as machining, welding, soldering, and system integration.
  • Understanding of fastener selection, thread locking, torque limits, press fits, micro-clearances, and structural bonding adhesives such as epoxy, cyanoacrylate, and UV-cure adhesives.
  • Ability to recognize and troubleshoot fitment issues such as binding, misalignments, dynamic interference, and tolerance stack-up issues during dry-fits and final assembly.
  • High tolerance for repetitive, fine-detail work requiring intense focus, steady hands, and surgical cleanliness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform precision assembly and integration of small, complex, and fragile mechanical subsystems using engineering drawings, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify mechanical and electromechanical function and fit issues, and work with teammates to troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies.
  • Operate and maintain 3D printers and hand or power tools to produce rapid prototypes, custom assembly jigs, and alignment fixtures.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and test hardware.
  • Assist engineering staff with evaluating prototypes and preparing for test events.
