About The Position

This position performs mechanical inspections to ensure compliance with state and local codes for residential and commercial projects. Answers questions from contractors and the public, explains code requirements, and provides technical guidance to support safe and compliant construction practices.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED plus additional vocational training in drafting, design technology, or mechanical inspections; with one to three years of mechanical installations or construction foreman experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Requires the following licenses/certifications within 30 months: Georgia Unrestricted Conditioned Air contractor's license, International Code Council (ICC) Residential Mechanical Inspector Certification, International Code Council (ICC) Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews plans for mechanical systems to ensure code compliance.
  • Receives applications and issues mechanical permits; schedules inspections.
  • Maintains permit and contractor files in electronic and hard copy formats.
  • Mails and faxes plan review letters concerning code violations to owners, contractors, and designers.
  • Makes inspections to determine conformance with laws, ordinances, and codes; checks excavations, backfill, soil conditions, and location of mechanical systems.
  • Informs and meets with owners, contractors, designers, and other city departments concerning mechanical code violations.
  • Releases approved systems to the utility provider.
  • Investigate unpermitted work and unlicensed persons.
  • Files complaints with the state Licensing Board against unlicensed persons.
  • Issues subpoenas for code violations and appears in court.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
