About The Position

Penn Wood Products, Inc. engineering group is located in East Berlin, PA. This role involves working on high-priority manufacturing improvement projects to enhance speed, quality, automation, safety, environmental conditions, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness. The engineer will study and analyze improvement opportunities, calculate potential savings, collaborate with staff and vendors on solutions, cost justify projects, and manage their execution. Responsibilities include managing multiple projects simultaneously, providing status updates to management, driving projects, and assisting with annual budget planning. The role requires analyzing manufacturing data (Productivity, Quality, Delivery, Safety, Environmental, Maintenance) to identify improvement project opportunities, working with suppliers to specify equipment, designing and conducting pilot and production scale tests, documenting and evaluating data, writing technical reports, identifying process equipment through testing, establishing operating parameters, providing process flow diagrams, specifying, installing, and commissioning new process equipment, and preparing project documentation. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, engineering, and equipment manufacturers is essential, as is designing, troubleshooting, and optimizing manufacturing processes and products.

Responsibilities

  • Work on high priority manufacturing improvement projects in the plant to improve speed, quality, reduce defects, automate processes, improve safety, environmental conditions, and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Study/analyze potential improvement opportunities, calculate potential savings, work with staff and outside vendors to provide solution options, cost justify the project, and deliver project management leadership and execution.
  • Manage a number of projects at one time and provide top management & corporate personnel with timeline/status of each project.
  • Drive projects and help with annual budget planning of all projects.
  • Analyze all pertinent manufacturing data including Productivity, Quality, Delivery, Safety, Environmental, and Maintenance data and look for opportunities for improvement projects.
  • Work with suppliers to spec out equipment for improvement projects.
  • Design and conduct pilot and production scale processes and tests, document and evaluate data, and write technical reports.
  • Identify process equipment through testing, establish equipment operating parameters, and provide process flows diagrams.
  • Specify, install, and commission new process equipment.
  • Prepare proper documentation of project work, including engineering calculations, process design documentation, and process test reports.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams including personnel from manufacturing, quality assurance, engineering, equipment manufacturers.
  • Design, troubleshoot and optimize manufacturing processes and products.
