About The Position

The General Foreman provides leadership and is responsible for supervising workers and work crews under his or her charge, ensuring the safety of crew members, following OHSA guidelines and Austin Industrial safety rules and the overall productivity of crew members. As a key participant in the relationship between Austin Industrial and the client, the general foreman functions largely as a coordinating manager and client interface.

Requirements

Five+ years of experience in construction or mechanical engineering projects as a Craft Foreman.
Ability to read engineering and architectural drawings and specifications in order to interpret a variety of instructions in legal, mathematical or diagrammatic form.
Ability to perform financial and mathematical analysis.
Ability to read and understand contracts.
Ability to manage a team, resolve disputes and foresee potential cost or schedule issues.
Outstanding and professional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management and scheduling software, including online tools.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership that results in a safe work culture, is responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under his/her direction, and must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of the role.
Know and understand the requirements of the OHSA.
Know, understand, communicate and ensure compliance with the OHSA, and company safety policies and procedures.
Facilitate mandatory safety tool box meetings.
Ensure completion of initial safety and hazard assessments.
Participate in safety/incident investigations.
Ensure that vehicle and equipment checks are carried out.
Coordinate the crew, and must understand and consistently apply the general foreman’s policies.
Be involved and supportive of any day to day disciplinary decisions.
Communicate the job to and with the crew.
Assign crew tasks.
Recognize, address and resolve issues/problems among/between crew members.
Maintain work standards and outline behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity.
Apply the principles of workplace respect on site.
Ensure crew compliance with project policies and procedures.
Ensure crew compliance with company policies and procedures.
Follow project plans and schedules and ensure that crews under his/her direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals.
Translate general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for the crew.
Work with the crew to overcome work challenges.
Periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production.
Champion an inclusive employee relations culture, is accountable for the adherence to policies and procedures by the crew to ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment.
Promote, support and facilitate teamwork and harmony between all crew members by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all crew members.
Ensure that the completed work meets quality standards.
On-site assessment prior to commencing work to ensure that the job is ready, and addressing any concerns.
Oversee the execution of the work, including quality and production, ensuring that the crew works to job specifications and follows the plans.
Inspect and measure completed work.
Prepare reports as required by the employer.
Maintain site foreman’s log & site reports.
Prepare daily production records.
Report on work progress.
Complete quality reports when necessary.
Daily time keeping & reporting.
Worker violation reports.
Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, firing, promotions and discipline.
