About The Position

Our client is the largest design-build mechanical contractor in the Sacramento area, providing comprehensive HVAC, plumbing, and piping services to commercial and industrial facilities throughout Northern California. With expertise in both design-build and traditional plan-and-spec delivery methods, the company offers employees the opportunity to work on diverse, technically challenging projects while contributing to a growing organization with a strong regional presence. Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to lead the development of accurate, competitive estimates and proposals for commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects. This individual will be responsible for assembling all aspects of estimates for both prime contract and subcontract bids, utilizing design-build and plan-and-spec delivery methods. The ideal candidate will have strong technical estimating capabilities, a thorough understanding of mechanical construction, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, general contractors, and subcontractors.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of relevant estimating experience in mechanical construction, supported by applicable technical training.
• Strong understanding of mechanical construction, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.
• Knowledge of current labor rates, material costs, and construction pricing.
• Experience preparing estimates for both design-build and plan-and-spec projects.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and project manuals.
• Understanding of conceptual estimating, budgeting, and scope development.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and general contractors.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with QuickPen estimating software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare comprehensive estimates and develop final proposals for prime contract and subcontract opportunities.
• Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and project manuals to determine material, labor, subcontractor, and general conditions costs.
• Develop accurate estimates using traditional plan-and-spec delivery methods.
• Conceptualize project scopes and establish cost estimates for design-build opportunities.
• Review site visit videos, preliminary sketches, and project information to establish project scope and pricing.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams to develop design-build estimates and budgets.
• Evaluate subcontractor scopes and coordinate pricing to ensure complete and accurate proposals.
• Maintain current knowledge of labor rates, material costs, and market conditions.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with Project Managers, subcontractors, and General Contractors throughout the estimating process.
• Ensure all estimates and proposals are prepared with accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
