About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join our team in Gatineau. This role supports the pursuit and successful delivery of mechanical sheet metal and piping projects by preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates. The Estimator works closely with internal teams, clients, and suppliers to develop pricing, scope breakdowns, and documentation that ensure project success from bid through execution. Estimators are critical for winning work, managing risk, and enabling strong project performance, as accurate piping estimates directly influence profitability, client confidence, and the ability of project teams to deliver work safely, on time, and on budget.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience preparing cost estimates and proposals for mechanical, plumbing, and/or piping construction projects
  • Experience estimating as both a subcontractor and prime contractor
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Experience with estimating and construction software (e.g., Trimble, AutoBid, Bluebeam, Procore)
  • Solid understanding of construction methods and materials
  • Ability to produce accurate estimates under tight deadlines
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel

  • Strong communication skills and comfort working cross‑functionally

Responsibilities

  • Review proposal specifications and perform quantity take‑offs for labour, equipment, and materials
  • Prepare accurate estimates and proposals for mechanical plumbing and piping construction projects
  • Break projects into logical scopes with clear labour and cost breakdowns
  • Identify value‑engineering and cost‑saving opportunities to meet client needs
  • Meet with clients to understand requirements and clarify scope
  • Engage with Modern Niagara suppliers to build relationships and negotiate pricing
  • Provide technical and estimating support to Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Business Development teams
  • Prepare estimating documentation and support project handoff meetings for awarded work
  • Liaise with Project Managers to ensure scope, assumptions, and pricing are clearly understood
