About The Position

WVU Parkersburg is a Community and Technical College located in Parkersburg, WV along with Jackson County Center in Ripley, WV and Innovation Technology Center in Vienna, WV. We are dedicated to teaching and are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission to offer certificates, associate and bachelor’s degrees. This is an Exempt, 12-month renewable term position, full time regular, benefits eligible position. The primary location is the Innovation and Technology Center – 1961 Innovation Drive, Vienna WV 26105. Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience. The position is posted with an application deadline of 08/23/2026 and is effective Summer semester, 2026.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from a recognized, regionally accredited college or university with a major emphasis in engineering OR 3-5 years of industry experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering practices
  • Demonstrated use of advanced technology systems such as learning management systems or similar technologies.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant industry experience in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, or energy-related fields.
  • Proficiency in engineering software applications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with a student-centered teaching philosophy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and industry partners.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance and punctuality are expected to ensure performance of the essential function of the job, including scheduled meetings and shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding and application of assessment practices is strongly preferred.
  • Successful college-level teaching experience is preferred, as well as prior effective use of technology in instructional delivery, and a willingness to deliver courses in all instructional modalities.
  • Demonstration of teaching effectiveness is part of the on-campus interview.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach courses in Mechanical Engineering Technology, including hands-on, core engineering principles, manufacturing processes, energy systems, and technical problem solving.
  • Assist with curriculum development and assessment to align with accreditation standards and workforce needs.
  • Engage in active and experimental learning strategies to enhance student engagement and success.
  • Collaborate with local industries and advisory committees to ensure program relevance and create internship and job placement opportunities.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic progress, career pathways, and professional development.
  • Participate in college service activities, outreach, and recruitment efforts.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and stay current with industry trends and advancements in engineering technology education.
  • Academic advising, committee service, program and course-level assessment, program support, effective use of learning management systems, student recruitment/retention and professional development.
  • Use of learning management systems and demonstrated effective use of technology is a condition of continued employment beyond the first year.
  • Actively participate in the college community.
