If that’s the kind of work that gets you out of bed in the morning, we think you belong here. BiVACOR Inc. is looking for a mechanical engineering technician (MET) with experience in medical devices. This role, based at BiVACOR engineering office Huntington Beach CA, will support the mechanical engineering team with engineering activities for the development, design, and non-clinical manufacture of the BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart (TAH) and its components. It is expected that the role will switch departments to the manufacturing operations department as relevant products reach that state. At that time, this role will support clinical manufacturing activities. We are looking for a hands-on candidate with superior communication skills as well as problem solving and technical skills. Specifically, the candidate shall have experience in prototyping and/or manufacturing of textile medical devices such as components of mechanical heart valves. In detail, experience shall exist in suturing or sewing of textile components for medical devices as assembly technique.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in medical device production, assembly, or engineering support including suturing or sewing of textile components (required).
  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to work under magnification.
  • Strong attention to detail, technical documentation skills, and ability to work in a collaborative team setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or certification in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field (desirable).
  • An understanding of device quality standards, such as ISO 13485, ISO 9001 (desirable).

Responsibilities

  • Technical contribution to the development and design of implantable fluid connectors connecting the TAH to the human circulation.
  • Assist in the assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of artificial heart components such as the fluid connectors.
  • Support in creation of work instruction documentation which describes manufacturing and testing.
