About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Mechanical Engineering Technician III maintains and utilizes commercial production equipment. This position combines manual dexterity, attention to detail, and use of hand and power tools and commercial production equipment in a range of fabrication and maintenance processes that support a number of KULR’s development activities. This role uses a variety of machine and laboratory equipment to accomplish deliverables. In addition, the Mechanical Technician may support lithium-ion battery fabrication, build-up, and testing activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Science, technology or math background preferred.
  • Skilled use with a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and tools.
  • Skilled in debugging

Responsibilities

  • Assists mechanical engineers in the planning and testing of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
  • Helps prepare proposals and cost estimates.
  • Estimates workload to establish completion dates.
  • Reads and interprets technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Assembles, installs, aligns, and calibrates mechanical equipment and systems according to specifications.
  • Conducts regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical systems, including automated machinery, motors, pumps, compressors, conveyors, and other equipment.
  • Identifies and diagnoses mechanical issues or malfunctions using technical knowledge, diagnostic tools, ad equipment manuals.
  • Develops, implements, and documents equipment maintenance plans.
  • Modifies, fabricates, and/or builds prototype components and hardware, including those for battery systems.
  • Conducts, assists, and/or facilitates lithium-ion battery testing, including electrical cycling and/or forms of destructive thermal runaway experiments.
  • Conducts, assists, and/or facilitates destructive physical analysis (DPA) activities following the conclusion of lithium-ion battery testing activities.
  • Conducts, assists, and/or facilitates calorimetric and impingement zone mapping (IZM) tests of li-ion cells and packs (on-the-job training can be provided for this function).
  • Conducts and/or assists in the processing of test data and subsequent report documentation.
  • Assists in the transition from prototype to production.
  • Verifies dimensions of parts, using precision measuring instruments, to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including engineers, production supervisors, and quality control personnel, to ensure that production goals and quality standards are met.
  • Monitors equipment performance, troubleshoot, and communicate any issues that arise during operation.
  • Consistently maintains a high degree of order and cleanliness in the assigned area.
