As part of a formal apprenticeship training program, this role assists journeyman Mechanical Engineering Technicians and Associates to learn, develop, and apply the skills necessary to obtain a Department of Labor certification as a journeyman. The apprentice will also independently perform work to support area needs during work rotations. The position involves learning to conduct performance and reliability testing of engines, components, systems, and controls, as well as diagnosing problems and initiating resolutions. The apprentice will also learn to configure and operate data acquisition systems, analyze data, interpret results, and maintain electronic files. Additionally, the role includes learning to perform rig, engine, and component builds, tear downs, and inspections, as well as grading and measuring components. The apprentice will also learn to create machining sketches, fabricate necessary piping, tubing, and brackets, and install engines and instrumentation. The role also involves learning to design and document test plans, provide input on test plan creation, and draft test reports. The apprentice will attend classes and training programs to build skills for certification examinations and will eventually conduct work independently. The role also requires assisting technicians and engineers, learning and applying company and department rules, participating in quality procedures and improvement projects, maintaining workplace cleanliness, and complying with safety policies. Confidentiality and participation in audits are also expected.
