About The Position

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network. Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking and transportation. We actively foster a work environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Team Lead to own the technical direction and execution of every mechanical system on our self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles — structures, powertrains, thermal management, and braking systems — from concept through production. In this role you will set the technical roadmap for the mechanical design team, lead and develop the engineers on it, and make the hardest calls on mechanical design and architecture, backed by rigorous structural and thermal analysis (FEA), GD&T discipline, and DFM/DFA practice. This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll lead a team of 3–10 engineers and engage in occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 8 or more years of mechanical engineering and design experience for vehicles or complex industrial equipment, including time in a technical leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of design engineers, including performance management and career development.
  • Expert-level proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.
  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as a leader.
  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.
  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided).

Nice To Haves

  • Proven track record taking complex mechanical systems from initial concept through successful production launch.
  • Directly applicable industry experience, such as Rail, Electric Vehicles, Automotive, Aerospace, or Heavy Machinery.
  • Deep expertise in advanced structural analysis (FEA), vehicle dynamics, and/or thermal management systems.
  • Developing and managing engineering budgets and project schedules.
  • Working across organizational boundaries and collaborating with other engineering disciplines at a leadership level.
  • Administering a PLM/PDM system (Autodesk Vault, Windchill, Teamcenter, or similar) and owning an engineering release and change-control process.
  • Agile environments for hardware development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, owning their performance, technical growth, and career development.
  • Direct the complete design lifecycle of mechanical systems — structures, powertrains, thermal management, and braking systems — from initial concept through production.
  • Oversee the creation and review of complex 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and structural and thermal analyses (FEA).
  • Drive accountability for project milestones, ensuring the team delivers high-quality designs on schedule and within budget.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for mechanical engineering, partnering with software, electrical, and manufacturing leadership.
  • Champion best practices in design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Own the mechanical engineering data flow — PLM/PDM administration, the part and drawing release process, revision and change control, and BOM accuracy from design through manufacturing.
  • Resolve the most challenging technical issues and make the critical calls on mechanical design and architecture.
