About The Position

The Engineering Supervisor provides leadership to a group of design teams. The Engineering Supervisor works with their design teams to ensure that all projects are being completed with a high level of quality and within the time allowed.

  • Must have a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5 years engineering experience or an ASS degree in Mechanical Drafting, Design and Engineering Technology with 7 years of engineering experience.

  • Ensure all direct reports have SMART goal deliverables that align with annual departmental and company goals.
  • Develop proactive working relationships with all other departments to address shared problems and generate "win-win" solutions.
  • May be asked to represent the Engineering Manager in internal or external meetings as required.
  • Participate in the development of new policies or revision of existing policies when necessary.
  • Interview candidates, recommend hires and meet one-on-one with each direct report on a regular basis to build a strong team.
  • Train employees and facilitate goal oriented continuous improvement processes to reduce waste, improve efficiency and develop and implement quality standards.
  • Foster "6+1 ways" mindset (Quality, Professional Courtesy, Can-Do Attitude, Responsiveness, Convenience and Aggressive Follow-Up) in fellow employees.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitate problem solving efforts, identify root causes, implement solutions, audit and report results to the Engineering Manager.
  • Monitor and manage production schedules. Work with other supervisors and external customers to adjust schedules as required.
  • Work with members of the design team in studying and developing new concepts.
  • Is directly involved in each project within the design team to help them solve design problems throughout a project's life cycle.
  • Work with the Engineering Manager to provide Project Application Engineers the estimated project hours and reviews concepts for possible future orders.
  • Take part in the formal review process of each machine prior to its release from Engineering.
  • On a daily operational basis; schedule, organize, and oversee the work of the design teams to meet defined performance objectives.
  • Support the review of Customer Specifications.
  • Complete and conduct employee performance review process for assigned employees in a timely manner. Develop improvement plans as needed, recommend merit increases.
  • Redirect and coach employees whose actions are not in alignment with Douglas Values or whose performance does not meet expectations.
  • Handle all disciplinary issues within scope of responsibility. Document unacceptable employee behavior, recommend discipline.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to customers, training, meetings, and conferences as required. Travel up to 10%.
