About The Position

Peraton is hiring a Mechanical Engineering, Lead Associate on site in San Diego, CA. This role is responsible for providing guidance and expertise in mechanical engineering to design complex mechanical equipment and systems, and to investigate, evaluate and develop new applications for existing equipment and systems. The associate will determine the theoretical principles involved in applying advanced analytical and investigative methods and techniques, and analyze assigned tasks to provide estimates of manpower and material required to complete them. They will also prepare schedules for accomplishing tasks within estimates, and supervise and coordinate technicians in fabrication and installation of complex mechanical and related electronic equipment and systems. This position may direct field operation and maintenance activities of mechanical equipment/systems installations, and evaluate operational systems and designs modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions or changes in system requirements. The associate will develop new applications requiring appreciable originality and ingenuity, and complex test procedures for equipment and systems that are significantly different from existing designs. They will plan, organize, and conduct the development of each assignment, coordinate manpower assigned to each activity, and coordinate the activities of groups involved in various stages of the overall program to ensure effective integration. Additionally, the associate will provide technical guidance to personnel involved with producing design fabrication drawings, and review and correct drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques and required specifications have been utilized. Finally, they will develop, release, and maintain documentation in accordance with company and contractual requirements, and review, write, and edit reports such as evaluation plans, test results, and technical manuals to provide recommendations, conclusions, and other data.

Requirements

  • 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA
  • Current Secret Security clearance
  • Design modifications supporting approved engineering changes to electro-mechanical systems supporting existing UUV operations
  • Draft and deliver Level 3 engineering drawings
  • Complete design improvements on support equipment through the engineering change process outlined in PMS 408’s Configuration Management (CM) Plan
  • Complete design review briefs on changes made to the support equipment
  • Design reviews shall include sufficient objective evidence to support the proposed design changes
  • Design, plan, conduct and report on system-level testing to verify and validation engineering changes to support equipment
  • Develop initial user manual and training materials for developmental support equipment

  • Complete finite-element analysis (FEA) of mechanical components used in MK 18 FoS support equipment
  • Work with the MK 18 FoS In-Service Engineering Agent to design, develop and evaluate prototype support equipment for Next Generation UUVs, being tested and evaluated by NIWC Pacific
