About The Position

Stantec’s Buildings Internship Program offers hands-on experience on local building design projects, working with designers, planners, engineers, project managers, technical leaders, clients, and communities. The intern works with guidance and direction on tasks and smaller projects and as part of a larger project team under the guidance of a Senior Engineer. The role involves contributing to the evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems or products while verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices. Interns also participate in an integrated design project for a real client, collaborating with interns across engineering, architecture, interiors, lighting design, and specialty services to develop sustainable design solutions.

Requirements

• Must have completed at least the second year of a bachelor’s program in Mechanical Engineering by the internship start date.
• Great work ethic.
• Strong motivation to learn.
• Excellent task and time management skills.
• Ability to process information quickly and accurately.
• Proficiency in CADD; AutoCAD and Revit are ideal.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to attend in-person site visits.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with and assist Building Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
• Interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil plans.
• Perform engineering calculations using HVAC design software and Excel.
• Use AutoCAD and Revit to prepare HVAC and plumbing drawings and details.
• Apply fundamental engineering principles to solve real-world problems.
• Collaborate with and support multidisciplinary project teams.
• Participate in the Summer Intern Design Project with interns from other building design disciplines.
• Contribute to the evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered systems or products, verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards and practices.
