About The Position

Dorman is seeking several Engineering Interns to join the team for summer 2027. The Product Engineering Intern assists senior product engineers at various stages of product development and is exposed to the full process, with opportunities to see the impact of their work on a product’s final design. The role involves reverse engineering, initial design benchmarking, reviewing and editing engineering drawings, and product validation testing. Dorman seeks future engineers who think freely, use creative problem-solving methods, and can develop innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Interns will learn how automotive manufacturers develop parts for production and service applications, gain an understanding of automotive industry drawing standards, tolerances, and vehicle-manufacturer validation testing criteria, and work collaboratively on projects that drive revenue and provide customer solutions.

Requirements

• Actively pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering-related discipline.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

• SolidWorks experience.
• Knowledge of GD&T drafting techniques.
• Basic knowledge of automotive mechanical and electrical systems and/or vehicle hardware.

Responsibilities

• Produce product design specifications that identify dimensional and performance requirements.
• Support product development and reverse engineering functions.
• Assist with coordination or fabrication of prototype samples.
• Use SolidWorks for engineering and design tasks, including 3D model creation, drawing creation, drawing review, and correction.
• Conduct first article inspection and product validation testing.
• Conduct or coordinate external and internal product testing.
• Examine test data and reports to determine whether designs meet functional, reliability, and quality requirements.
• Confer with the product team to prepare and implement design modifications.
• Participate in cross-functional teams as required.
