About The Position

Rendezvous Robotics is solving the fundamental bottleneck of building more capable spacecraft by developing electromagnetic self-assembling tiles. These modular spacecraft components rendezvous, dock, and latch to assemble larger and more powerful spacecraft than anything that can fit inside a rocket fairing. We are a small team in Golden, Colorado, with a clear path from flight demonstration to operational systems, working across hardware, software, and systems engineering. We are seeking talented individuals to build the next generation of advanced spacecraft. Our systems require components that can repeatedly dock, undock, and re-dock without wear, fit together for reliable connections, and provide the stiffness for large orbital structures. This places significant demands on mechanical design, including docking connector design, mechanical latching, thermal management, structural loads through the docking interface, and packaging. As a critical team member, you will contribute to the development and hands-on assembly of flight hardware.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in CAD (Onshape, NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Understanding of basic structural and thermal analysis principles
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or eligible to obtain U.S. Department of State authorizations due to ITAR requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing for space environments (thermal cycling, vacuum, vibration, radiation shielding)
  • Familiarity with ruggedized connectors and cable harness design
  • Hands-on machining, 3D printing, or prototyping experience
  • Experience with FEA tools (NX Simcenter3D, FEMAP, ANSYS, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Design and iterate on structural components and docking interface hardware
  • Work on thermal management for onboard electronics and battery packs
  • Support mechanical integration of electronics, power systems, and sensors within a tight envelope
  • Develop and refine harness and connector layouts between internal subsystems
  • Run structural and thermal analysis to validate designs before build
