About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Ann Arbor, MI to work closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This paid internship offers hands-on experience over the course of 10-12 weeks. You will support project work within the project’s monetary budget, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and assist with coordination and documentation across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations. This opportunity supports industrial, manufacturing, and MEP work while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Requirements

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Nice To Haves

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of projects related to mechanical systems in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
• Research commercially available equipment and supporting resources.
• Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files.
• Coordinate design and schedule activities with other disciplines, including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers.
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
• Support project work within the project’s monetary budget.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
• Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement.
