Moxtek•Orem, UT
•$25 - $26

About The Position

Moxtek is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join its engineering team and partner with the X-ray Windows and Detectors team. The intern will help design, assemble, improve, and test X-ray radiation detectors and windows using 3D modeling, simulation, and hands-on experimentation. The role works cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing engineering, and production, with responsibilities spanning mechanical design, packaging, fixturing for manufacturability, and new equipment design, installation, and qualification. Work is split between design, building, and testing. The position is part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, with a projected graduation year of 2028.
  • Current GPA between 3.0 and 4.0.
  • Experience with experimental setups and mechanical design, including an understanding of statistically driven analysis and experimentation.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Experience with various statistical tools and software.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization and not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of CAD, with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Basic programming experience, such as LabView, C, C#, or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

  • Update mechanical drawings to meet current specifications and processes.
  • Optimize new X-ray products, equipment, and fixturing through 3D modeling, simulation, and experimentation.
  • Integrate mechanical parts with electronics.
  • Set up equipment and use 3D printers for prototyping.
  • Improve manufacturing methods, test procedures, and test equipment under the guidance of an experienced engineer.
  • Plan laboratory experiments to confirm design performance and evaluate processing parameters.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting experimental results and design decisions.
  • Use a methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Learn new subjects and skills under supervision, analyze research papers, and contribute continuous-improvement ideas.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, production issues, and new situations.
  • Coordinate with team members to identify and resolve manufacturing quality issues.
