About The Position

Steel Dynamics is offering a mechanical engineering internship at its Roanoke Bar Division in Roanoke, Virginia, within the Engineering Department, for Summer 2027. The internship combines office-based engineering work with hands-on experience in an industrial production environment. Interns work alongside operators and maintenance teams on equipment, systems, and processes, applying engineering principles through technical analysis, CAD design, process-improvement projects, and practical mechanical maintenance.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
• Have strong mechanical aptitude and maintenance knowledge.
• Be comfortable performing hands-on work in an industrial environment.
• Be able to communicate and collaborate effectively with operators.

Nice To Haves

• GPA of 2.7 or higher is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support operations and projects using engineering principles in office and industrial settings.
• Conduct experiments, analyze data, and prepare reports on findings.
• Collaborate with engineers and operations staff to improve processes and resolve issues.
• Identify trends, recommend improvements, and develop trials based on operational needs.
• Work hands-on with mechanical systems and maintenance tasks alongside operators.
