About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer Intern at Collins Aerospace Strategic Defense Solutions, you will participate in the design, development, and test of electronic equipment and integration kits for communication systems on military aircraft and transportable platforms. You will learn to work closely with fellow Mechanical Engineers as well as Systems, Electrical, and Manufacturing Engineering staff to ensure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product’s lifecycle. With technical supervision, apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems. Work with engineers and designers to produce models for components, parts, subassemblies, and assemblies. With technical oversight, execute tests for systems, subsystems, and components. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives. Communicate effectively in a cross-functional team. What You Will Learn: Collaboration in a multi-disciplinary team to create successful designs. How to follow appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs. Documentation of development, analysis, and test data. Processes associated with the various phases of the product development cycle.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software (Creo, NX, and/or Catia).
  • Experience with ANSYS or ABAQUS
  • A minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Possession of an active U.S. Government issued Top Secret clearance
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Word)
