What to Expect: As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the Fiber Optic Cable Data Center R&D Engineering team in the generation of new product ideas and reducing costs driven by customer feedback and market trends.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior standing in a BS or master’s student in Engineering from an accredited university
  • Proven strong academic performer with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
  • A strong desire to learn and grow by applying your education so far to real world engineering challenges

  • Possess solid modeling software knowledge (SolidWorks CREO)
  • Have some background in DOE analysis
  • Possess good hands-on mechanical ability
  • Possess strong verbal, written, presentation, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function independently and within a team environment
  • Strong Computer Skills

Responsibilities

  • Leading and creating designs of products used in Fiber Optic Cable Networks and generate associated product documentation for manufacturing.
  • Collaborating with operations/manufacturing during the design cycle to optimize design for manufacturability.
  • Interacting with product and process engineers and other technical disciplines on product/process improvements and new product solutions.
  • Focusing on cost reductions and eliminating waste.
  • Working closely with other CommScope factory locations to introduce new product designs into manufacturing and assist with the development of assembly work instructions.
  • Teaming up with our fiber cable test lab to test and demonstrate product compliance to applicable standards.
