About The Position

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Director to join their Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team. This role is crucial for leading and supporting the SRM design and analysis group for their development programs, which includes design, analysis, development testing, and performance analysis of Solid Rocket Motors. This is a full-time position with a 9/80 schedule and can be remote or based at their Huntsville, AL or Hampton, AR facility. The Director will provide leadership to managers and professional staff, be accountable for the performance of multiple teams, and develop departmental plans. Decisions will be guided by resource availability and organizational objectives, requiring consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Oversees a team of mechanical engineers that design, analyze, and maintain mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards.
  • Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders.
  • Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements.
  • Implements departmental policies and procedures to delegate workflow and ensure projects are completed on time and within required specifications and quality standards.
  • Leads the research and development of innovative or new technologies to improve existing products or processes.
  • Ensures projects follow organizational best practices for design, prototyping, and testing.
  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has responsibility for personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination with concurrence from HR & General Managers.
