About The Position

Immerse yourself in a full-time, Monday-Friday co-op session, that will run January - July/August (including the Spring semester; it is expected students will take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity). As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op at Collins Aerospace, you will participate in mechanical design, test and troubleshooting of various types of sensors for the aviation industry. Tasks will be part of a team effort that will be focused on the design of new products as well as support of current manufacturing. In this role, you will support the development and fabrication of variety of sensors used in aerospace sensor systems. You will work closely with a cross‑disciplinary team. This is a great opportunity to learn fundamental principles of the aviation industry, gain experience in multidisciplinary technology development, regulations, and gain experience in presenting technical information.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session
  • Experience with mechanical design and modeling software such as CREO, ANSYS, and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint)
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support existing products with investigations, design improvements, and documentation updates.
  • Perform tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function.
  • Use CAD solid modeling techniques to prepare component and assembly models and drawings.
  • Write test requests, supporting design verification and testing. Analyze test data.
  • Specify material joining methods and specifications for processes such as welding and brazing
