About The Position

Johnson Controls is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to support the development, testing, and validation of mechanical subsystems and equipment. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers to design, build, analyze, and test mechanical systems while contributing to projects that support innovation and operational excellence. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and complete tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Adaptable and capable of succeeding in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in detailed engineering work, including part design, material selection, and engineering drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping tools and processes, including 3D printing, milling, lathes, laser cutting, and hand tools.
  • Experience using SolidWorks and creating or modifying 2D engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn new technical skills independently while working within a collaborative team environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous co-op, internship, or industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Python, Linux, Jira, Git, or PLC programming.
  • Exposure to software and hardware troubleshooting in a technical environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate mechanical systems, test fixtures, and custom production equipment.
  • Partner with full-time engineers to develop system requirements and support project execution.
  • Perform subsystem-level analysis, design, assembly, and validation activities.
  • Document design decisions, engineering changes, and test results in a clear and timely manner.
  • Develop, document, and execute mechanical testing methods and procedures.
  • Create and modify CAD models, perform tolerance analyses, and develop 2D engineering drawings.
  • Create and manage tickets, provide technical feedback, and assist in troubleshooting software, process, and hardware issues.
  • Collaborate across engineering and manufacturing teams to support project goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
