About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer at BPMI, you will serve in the capacity of a Fleet Support Engineer. Your role will focus on coordinating the inspection, repair, and servicing of nuclear mechanical components, collaborating with both internal and external teams to deliver innovative solutions for unique, schedule-constrained challenges. Work may include developing and qualifying new inspection and repair solutions, either in-house or in partnership with technology suppliers, to ensure NAVY fleet support needs are met or exceeded. This position requires knowledge and application of pragmatic engineering techniques, principles, and practices tailored to each assignment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Nuclear or related engineering degree from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to climb ladders, traverse steep staircases, and work in tight spaces for extended durations (e.g., 8+ hours).
• Requires a security clearance, however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
• U.S. citizenship is a requirement for security clearance applicants.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for recent college graduates.
• Experience in project engineering or design engineering with some experience or familiarity in one or more of the following areas: manufacturing, welding, specification preparation, mechanical design, or field support.
• Experience with NDT methods, such as visual inspection, ultrasonic testing, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, and radiographic testing.
• Proficiency in solid modeling using CAD software.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including effective technical writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong attention to detail and deadlines.
• Committed to maintaining high standards of quality.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally.
• Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of project requirements and create detailed plans and schedules, track progress against schedule and performance goals, and provide regular status updates to management and stakeholders.
• Team with others including those at other organizations to lead the technical work, ensuring integration of activities and plans.
• Utilize the latest technologies in NDE inspection and component repairs to design, qualify and implement solutions for unique problems.
• Provide on-site support for the execution of cognizant efforts at Naval shipyards, typically over 1-3 week assignments.
• Assist with the resolution of technical, logistical, and funding issues in area of cognizance.
• Prepare specifications for the procurement, design, testing, and qualification of new or upgraded tooling and equipment.
• Assist in preparing revisions to technical manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with NR Program quality standards.
• Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions, or obtaining approval of funding.
• Interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing or test procedures to understand project requirements.
