About The Position

Nightwing is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Springfield, VA location to support technology development and mission programs. As part of a collaborative team of mechanical, civil, and electrical engineers, you will develop solutions from concept through prototype development, testing, documentation, and production.

Requirements

  • Candidate must hold or be willing to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a bachelor’s degree, or three (3) years with an advanced degree.
  • Product development experience using rapid, iterative design and prototyping methods with frequent integration/test cycles
  • Practical, hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes, including motors, actuators, and sensors
  • Experience with CAD software for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks & Revit preferred)
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, presentations, and documentation
  • Proficient in mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing diverse project tasks and types
  • Working knowledge of common hand and powered tools
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness and ability to travel for temporary assignments (less than 10% travel)

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in Finite Element Analysis and Mechanics of Materials
  • Experience with engineering data analysis tools such as Matlab and Mathcad
  • Experience designing for and using additive manufacturing
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Project Management experience

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams to develop innovative, practical solutions and drive program success.
  • Product design, advanced engineering analysis, creating and delivering drawings, coordinating hardware fabrication, and authoring detailed technical procedures.
  • Prepare presentations, field reports, cost estimates, and design reviews for diverse audiences.
  • Assist the Program Manager with technical, cost, and schedule requirements of current tasks and help shape strategies for future tasks based on customer needs.
  • Work effectively with engineers, technicians, and customer staff.
