About The Position

SEL is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role involves acting as a technical lead for various mechanical engineering functions, including assembly design, plastic and metal part design, tolerance studies, design for manufacturability/assembly, component selection and specification, thermal analysis, and mechanical shock and vibration analysis. You will also be responsible for improving existing products, directing the efforts of engineers and technicians, coordinating engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing, and executing complex hardware projects. Additionally, you will generate and maintain accurate Bills of Material, provide labor and material estimates, review and recommend improvements to documentation and designs, write test plans, conduct validation tests, maintain project notebooks, and mentor junior engineers and interns. US Citizenship is required for this position.

Requirements

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 6+ years’ experience in Computer-aided design; SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience in Electronic manufacturing techniques.
  • Technical expertise in two or more of the following areas: Heat transfer/electronics cooling, Material selection and fabrication technologies, Design for manufacturability, Mechanics, Electromechanical packaging design.
  • Working knowledge of project management processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • US Citizenship Required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Industrial plastics.
  • Knowledge of Thermal modeling.
  • Knowledge of Finite element analysis.
  • Knowledge of Tool design.
  • 2+ years SolidWorks experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the efforts of Engineers or Technicians; coordinate engineering activities with Purchasing and Manufacturing.
  • Execute hardware projects of high complexity.
  • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Material.
  • Provide accurate labor and material estimates.
  • Review, support, approve and provide recommendations for improvements to documentation, mechanical designs, and manufacturing process design.
  • Write comprehensive test plans, conduct detailed design validation tests and review results.
  • Maintain current and accurate project notebooks.
  • Mentor ME Interns, Designers, and Associate MEs, and MEs.
