About The Position

AECOM’s Buildings + Places group is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our Winnipeg team. As a key contributor within our mechanical discipline, you will lead portions of design work, perform engineering analyses, and support construction administration across a wide range of building projects including healthcare, institutional, industrial, municipal, and commercial facilities. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, technologists, project managers, and cross-discipline partners to deliver high-quality mechanical system designs aligned with client expectations and code requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) + 4 (four) years of relevant experience
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Manitoba, or eligibility for reciprocity/registration.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian and Manitoba building/mechanical codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA).

Nice To Haves

  • 5–10 years of mechanical building design experience in consulting or construction environments.
  • Experience in conceptual design, detailed design, and construction administration for a variety of building types.
  • Ability to write and edit mechanical specifications.
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency, sustainable design, and decarbonization strategies.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and technologists.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical system designs including HVAC, plumbing, controls, and fire protection systems for new builds, expansions, and renovations.
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations using tools such as load-calculation programs (e.g., Carrier HAP).
  • Prepare and review mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical reports at all project stages (concept, schematic, design development, and IFC).
  • Ensure all design work adheres to applicable building codes, industry standards, and internal QA/QC procedures.
  • Conduct field investigations, site reviews, and respond to RFIs and contractor inquiries.
  • Review mechanical submittents, shop drawings, and equipment selections for conformance with project documents.
  • Coordinate design activities with architectural, structural, electrical, and specialty disciplines within a fully integrated Buildings + Places environment.
  • Support project managers in planning work assignments, managing deliverables, and maintaining project schedules.
