About The Position

Talen Energy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Montour Steam Electric Station near Washingtonville, Pennsylvania. This role involves performing challenging engineering work with varying degrees of responsibility and supervision. The position focuses on the planning, design, and oversight of construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of components, systems, and facilities related to electrical energy generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization within a power plant environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other related science discipline from a college or university accredited by ABET, or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • A working knowledge of power plants is preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with ever-changing priorities.
  • Experience working with large rotating equipment (turbines, generators, fans, pumps).

Responsibilities

  • Act as key engineering interface for day-to-day plant maintenance and operations activities.
  • Support the planning and implementation of maintenance outages.
  • Focus on maintaining or improving equipment condition and performance, utilizing available techniques and practices.
  • Identify and assist in the resolution of emergent equipment issues.
  • Coordinate with vendors for related products and services.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary technical documentation and operating and performance history records.
  • Assist maintenance and operations functions with troubleshooting activities, and with startup and shutdown tasks.
  • Provide engineering support as needed for a 24x7 operation, including overtime and callouts.
  • Assist in work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger projects.
  • Use existing procedures to investigate, evaluate, and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs or recommendations to solve ongoing problems.
  • Build relationships to facilitate knowledge transfer, cross-functional understanding of related work groups, and effective presentation of work products.
  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using well-defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.
  • Assist in developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations, or new/better equipment purchase recommendations.
