About The Position

This role involves conducting engineering research, design, and development for assigned projects. The Mechanical Engineer will work independently or as part of a team, with limited assistance when necessary. Key duties include analyzing and establishing project objectives, assisting in the analysis of engineering data for new and existing products, and maintaining the project management system. The position requires interaction with customers and vendors regarding engineering designs and product specifications. The engineer will be responsible for applying sound engineering principles to designs, construction, and testing of pilot models, and assisting in resolving production problems. They will also provide technical advice to support personnel, review drawings for accuracy, and maintain detailed records of materials, procedures, and test data. Participation in design reviews, analysis of test data, and preparation of recommendations and reports are also key aspects of the role. The engineer will perform liaison activities to gather necessary project information and confer with manufacturing engineering on feasibility and cost estimates. A significant aspect of the role includes inventing or discovering new processes or improvements for the company's exclusive use and ownership, and staying informed about new developments in engineering fields. Developing strong working relationships with manufacturing, machining, purchasing, and quality departments is crucial for problem-solving and improving project quality and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school in mechanical engineering.
  • One to four years of general engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Follow all applicable policies, procedures, work instructions, safety rules, and regulations.

  • Manager discretion will be utilized to determine tangible experience level relating directly to applicable engineering disciplines and knowledge for existing and developing products.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering research, design, and development for assigned projects.
  • Analyze and establish project objectives, specifications, procedures, tests, and project management tasks.
  • Analyze and interpret engineering data for new products and changes to standard products.
  • Plan and organize research procedures based on engineering concepts and specifications.
  • Update project management system for all assigned projects and tasks.
  • Provide limited support for less experienced engineers.
  • Interact with customers on engineering design and address their questions or problems.
  • Direct and/or coordinate engineering activities to determine customer needs and requirements.
  • Interact with vendors concerning supplied or proposed parts.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to designs, construction, and testing of pilot models.
  • Assist in resolving production problems.
  • Render technical advice and assistance to Technicians, Drafting personnel, and prototype builders.
  • Check completed drawings for accuracy of design, dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
  • Maintain records of material specifications, research procedures, development techniques, designs, and test data.
  • Participate in engineering and general design reviews.
  • Analyze and evaluate test data, prepare recommendations, and participate in consultations.
  • Prepare periodic reports and recommendations.
  • Perform liaison activities to obtain necessary project information, services, and materials.
  • Confer with manufacturing engineering regarding feasibility of manufacture and cost estimates.
  • Invent or discover new and useful processes, machines, manufactures, or compositions of matter, or improvements thereof for the company's exclusive use and ownership.
  • Keep informed on new developments in engineering fields.
  • Develop working relationships with manufacturing, machining, purchasing, and quality departments to address and resolve problems and improve cooperation.
