About The Position

Northrop Grumman Space Systems, Multi-Domain Operations, and Missile Defense Integration Business Unit (BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer Level 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL. As a Mechanical Engineer you will support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment. Your core tasks will entail developing detailed mechanical drawings per ASME.Y14 standards and peer reviewing mechanical drawings. Additional responsibilities include maintaining design drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.
  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Must be able to support an in-office / closed-area work environment full-time.
  • Experience using a 3D CAD Package such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX
  • Experience reviewing 2D mechanical drawings per ASME standards
  • Prior experience with engineering PLM systems such as Teamcenter and MRP system such as SAP.
  • Understanding and application of industry engineering technical standards; demonstrated structural design experience and impact assessment.
  • Experience in evaluating vendor documents to ensure specifications and datasheet meets requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-1366, MIL-STD-1472, ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100, MIL-STD-31000

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience using analytical software tools, to analyze and reduce data to identify key characteristics and trends.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Core Standards: MDA-QS-001-MAP, MDA-QS-003-PMAP, MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS (ETR Process)
  • Familiarity with the GMD domain and GMD Launch Support Systems hardware
  • DOORS and/or CAMEO exposure

Responsibilities

  • Support the GMD Weapon System (GWS) Hardware Engineering team's design efforts working within an Agile environment.
  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings per ASME.Y14 standards.
  • Peer review mechanical drawings.
  • Maintain design drawings for multiple Ground Systems (GS) IPT hardware systems and their interfaces with facilities.
  • Perform analyses IAW industry and military standards.
  • Evaluate hardware design efforts.
  • Schedule and plan required tasks.
  • Accountability and active participation in team meetings and internal/external demos.
  • Document progress on team dashboards.
  • Generate engineering documentation including technical drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Mentor and cross-train junior engineers in analysis work, reviews, and approving their analysis results to meet customer requirements.
