About The Position

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join the Portland, Oregon (OR) office. This role involves utilizing technical software for client deliverables, solving complex problems, assisting project managers, and collaborating across disciplines. The engineer will develop familiarity with relevant regulations and standards, perform general mechanical engineering tasks (dry-mechanical, wet-mechanical, plumbing/process systems), and support multi-discipline Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing/process piping, Instrumentation & Controls, Telecom/Technology teams on large-scale Building Systems engineering designs. Project types may include Advanced Technology, Industrial, Micro-electronics, Mission Critical, Hospitals, and Central Utility Plants. The position requires managing and delivering tasks under minimal supervision and offers an opportunity to work with a team on various projects and build professional relationships.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of related experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Proven design experience with comfort and HVAC systems and related controls
  • Proven design experience with plumbing systems including water, sewer, and gas
  • Experience mentoring and coordinating the work of EITs, designers, and other technical staff on various mechanical or multi-discipline projects
  • Able to manage and deliver tasks under minimal supervision and guidance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and critical thinking ability
  • Ability to work individually or in a multi-discipline team

Responsibilities

  • Utilize technical software programs on a regular basis to analyze and produce deliverables for our clients.
  • Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines to produce our clients’ requirements for the future built environment.
  • Develop familiarity with the federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and our client’s practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Perform general mechanical engineering tasks supporting various project tasks as required, such as dry-mechanical, wet-mechanical, plumbing/process systems. Tasks could include developing floor plans, flow diagrams, schedules, details and calculations such as pump head calculations, pipe sizing and distribution, and selection of equipment, etc.
  • Support our collaboration of multi-discipline Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing/process piping, Instrumentation & Controls, Telecom/Technology team specifically working on large scale Building Systems engineering designs.
  • Manage and deliver tasks under minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Work with a team of engineers and designers on a variety of projects.
  • Build meaningful internal and external professional relationships.
