About The Position

Barge Design Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer for their Facilities Engineering Solution Center. This role involves the design of mechanical systems and guiding project teams for various facilities, including commercial, healthcare, and industrial projects. The position is available in any of Barge's 16 office locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • Familiarity with International codes including IMC, IPC, IFGC, and IFC required.
  • Design of HVAC systems for commercial and/or institutional buildings, including cooling and heat load calculations using Carrier HAP or Trane Trace, selection of HVAC system and equipment, air distribution system design, and design of 4-pipe hydronic distribution systems.
  • Modeling of mechanical systems using Revit or AutoCAD-based platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of experience preferred.
  • Industrial piping system design, including familiarity with the ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes.
  • Industrial ventilation system design.
  • Pipe stress analysis.
  • Experience in Mission Critical/Data Center, Healthcare, Federal and/or Military (including UFC construction standards), or Water/Wastewater facilities markets.
  • Plumbing system design.
  • Fire protection system design.

Responsibilities

  • Design of mechanical systems and day-to-day guidance of mechanical project teams for facilities projects (commercial, healthcare, industrial).
  • Mechanical systems design including utility piping systems (e.g., steam, cooling water, chilled water, compressed air), HVAC Systems, Plumbing systems, Fire protection systems, and Process ventilation.
  • Preparation of construction documents: plans, specifications, engineering reports, and cost estimates.
  • Review work of others for quality.
  • Assist in client contact and communication during design, bidding, and construction administration, including attending remote client meetings.
  • Provide construction phase support: response to RFIs, bid reviews, and on-site construction observation visits.
