Conducts range of activities associated with analysis and testing to develop design options or recommendations for products and processes. Designs new products and processes, performs structural engineering analysis, and provides technical support. Provide structural analysis expertise to help design and qualify transport refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment/components. Solve structural design problems by integrating experimental testing and analytical methods (e.g., FEA) to ensure safe, reliable, cost-effective products for challenging transport environments. Partner with the structures team and cross-functional project teams to conceive, design, and deliver robust products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 2 times per year (up to one week long per trip).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience working in a mechanical engineering role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with technical report writing and presenting work results.
  • Competencies in stress and fatigue analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), vibration, modal analysis, machine design, kinematics, mechanics of materials, mechanical testing.
  • Knowledgeable on any of the following: ANSYS software, Ncode software, ProEngineer software, refrigeration equipment, failure analysis, welding/machining, or a hands-on mechanical background.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the product design teams and other technical support teams to develop the structural reliability of various Carrier products
  • Support and facilitate vibration and mechanical laboratory testing and evaluation including data processing and summarization
  • Facilitate Finite Element Modeling (FEA) of structural analyses (static/dynamic; stress, fatigue, modal), including interpreting and summarizing results.
  • Diagnose root causes of structural issues and propose/validate solutions
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Communicate outcomes through technical reports and clear presentations of analyses and recommendations.
  • Create, improve, and document standard work practices and procedures.
