About The Position

The UAV industry is a fast-paced and constantly evolving market in which Lumenier is a key player. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for drone hardware and structures. This position requires a broad set of skills within the mechanical engineering discipline.

Requirements

  • Strong foundation in mechanical design, structures, and materials.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
  • Experience designing and releasing production-ready parts and assemblies.
  • Ability to create detailed engineering drawings with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with lightweight structural design and material selection (aluminum, carbon fiber, plastics).
  • Familiarity with FEA or first-principles analysis for structural and thermal problems.
  • Hands-on prototyping experience (3D printing, CNC machining, composites, or manual fabrication).
  • Experience designing for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • Ability to take designs from concept through prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Experience debugging mechanical systems and root-causing failures in real-world conditions.
  • Familiarity with vibration, shock, and thermal considerations in dynamic systems.
  • Experience working with vendors, suppliers, or contract manufacturers.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative hardware development environment.
  • Compelling work ethic and attitudinal awareness around “getting the job done right”.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to iterate quickly on hardware.
  • Ability to collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and firmware teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong aptitude for root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical or hardware engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with drone, UAV, aerospace, or robotics systems.
  • Familiarity with FPV hardware (frames, mounts, propulsion integration).
  • Experience with composites and carbon fiber structural design.
  • Knowledge of motors, propulsion systems, or rotating machinery.
  • Experience designing vibration-sensitive or high-performance systems.
  • Prior experience supporting production scaling or field reliability.
  • Experience designing test fixtures, jigs, or validation setups.
  • Exposure to cross-disciplinary systems (electronics integration, embedded systems).
  • Hands-on building experience (RC aircraft, drones, robotics projects, etc.).
  • FPV flight experience or strong interest in drone systems.
