Mechanical Engineer
About The Position
An industry leading multi-disciplinary team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for their Grand Rapids team! This role involves project and client management, proposal preparation, and contract administration. The engineer will manage the design process, supervise staff, and perform advanced calculations and design tasks for HVAC systems. Responsibilities include coordinating with other disciplines, meeting with vendors and contractors, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and performing field verifications for renovation projects. The role also requires conducting business development activities, participating in trade organizations, and assisting with presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience in Consulting Engineering
- Experience in design in Healthcare, Commercial, Public Sector, Industrial, Education, and/or Institutional projects
- Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently
- Working knowledge of Revit
- Must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship

Responsibilities
- Project/Client management
- Prepare proposals
- Administer project contracts, including Add Service Agreements
- Understand work planning/manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan
- Supervise staff or self-perform design tasks
- Prepare SD, DD, CD level documents
- Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP
- Develop air and water flows calculations
- Create sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
- Determine equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
- Write specifications to reflect project requirements
- Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
- Coordinate with other disciplines for all HVAC details
- Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application
- Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
- Respond to RFI’s for the project and accurately review submittals
- Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
- Understand both constant and variable flow systems, and properly apply equipment
- Understand fan/pump curves to properly select equipment for application
- Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
- Review designs prepared by others as part of Osborn’s QA/QC process
- Attend meetings with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, and other professionals as projects require
- Conduct business development activities
- Participate in various trade organizations
- Prepare/assist with presentations
