About The Position

As part of the Buildings Group for Garver, this Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing mechanical designs in support of various Buildings Design Business Line projects. Specifically, this responsibility will include a variety of projects related to leading the planning, design, and commissioning of: Building HVAC system(s), Building plumbing system(s), Building fire protection system(s), Whole building energy modeling, and Building sustainability requirements reporting. In addition, this role will include coordination with other support disciplines, and coordination with regional offices. Assisting project managers in management of projects. Following quality assurance and quality control plans. Periodic travel to project sites will be required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus from an ABET accredited university or college
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
5-10 years of building design and construction industry experience
Knowledge base of mechanical engineering principals related to building mechanical designs
Proven experience overseeing mechanical designs, including detailed plans and specifications for building projects
Technically competent in building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Strong communication skills
Experience with Autodesk Revit
Proficient with MS Office Suite

Licensed Professional Engineer
Experience with AIA MasterSpec
Knowledge of Federal Agencies design criteria

Responsibilities

Leading the planning, design, and commissioning of Building HVAC system(s)
Leading the planning, design, and commissioning of Building plumbing system(s)
Leading the planning, design, and commissioning of Building fire protection system(s)
Whole building energy modeling
Building sustainability requirements reporting
Coordination with other support disciplines
Coordination with regional offices
Assisting project managers in management of projects
Following quality assurance and quality control plans
Overseeing the mechanical design of building projects throughout the project lifecycle from the conceptual phase, design phase, and construction phase
Utilizing BIM design software to produce construction drawings
Utilize Microsoft Excel based calculation tools for design calculations
Manage multiple assignments concurrently
Be responsible for time management and product quality
Follow Quality Assurance and Quality Control Plans
Be responsible for continuing education and learning based on project needs, as well as overall needs of the team
