About The Position

Salas O’Brien is seeking a personable Project Mechanical Engineer to join their multidiscipline Design/Build Group in the San Antonio office. The role involves managing the mechanical engineering scope for various projects, including higher education, commercial, industrial, defense sector, federal, and mission critical facilities. The engineer will be responsible for leading mechanical design, performing calculations, selecting equipment, designing systems, and utilizing Revit for 3D modeling. This position requires direct client interaction, adherence to codes and guidelines, project due diligence, construction administration, and technical report preparation. The role also includes coaching and supporting new engineers and collaborating with senior staff for quality assurance.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years' experience in HVAC & Plumbing design.
  • B.S. degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Revit Experience is required.
  • Knowledge of engineering theories and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of project approach and system design.
  • Willingness to build and maintain relationships with clients.

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC & Plumbing design is preferred.
  • PE is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the mechanical engineering scope for projects, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
  • Deal directly with clients/owners to determine specific project needs.
  • Lead mechanical design for projects including higher education, commercial, industrial, defense sector, federal, and mission critical.
  • Perform load calculations, equipment selection, central utilities, mechanical room, instrumentation, controls, energy management, ductwork and piping design.
  • Utilize Revit to create 3D models including families, schedules and system layouts.
  • Be familiar with and apply applicable codes and owner guidelines.
  • Review project submittments ensuring project compliance.
  • Conduct project due diligence and construction administration trips.
  • Prepare technical reports, project assessments and project specifications.
  • Coach and support new engineers in developing technical and professional skills.
  • Work closely with senior engineering staff and project managers for ensuring appropriate QA/QC is accommodated on projects.
