About The Position
Mechanical Engineers are the heart of the Charge team — designing, diagnosing, and improving critical assemblies our large electromechanical factory and fleet of delivery vehicles. Charge is a fast-moving company, which means constant opportunities for learning and growth. You’ll have a large impact on the direction of our company, and will be compensated accordingly. We’re MIT-founded and backed by top generalist and climate tech investors, including Founders Fund, Energy Impact Partners, Lux Capital and Y Combinator (S21). If you’re excited to work on interesting problems with direct climate impact, you’re going to fit right in!
Requirements
- Experienced with industry-standard CAD software (we use Onshape)
- Know how to fabricate your parts but also know when to send drawings out to a shop
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced startup environment
- Have excellent written communication skills
- Gain satisfaction from personally playing a part in mitigating climate change
- Are based in or can relocate to the SF Bay Area, and able to work 4-5 days/week from our San Leandro HQ
- Are open to 10-15% travel to field (solar construction sites) to work directly with our product in its deployment environment
- Are excited to see our robots deployed onto actual solar farms!
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with industrial robot arms, end effectors, and automation systems
- Have a 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
Responsibilities
- Designing, building, testing, and iterating on mechanical systems for solar assembly
- Tracking, investigating, and resolving hardware issues with robots
- Communicating with other engineers to integrate new designs
- Playing with some very large mechanisms
