About The Position

Sterling Industrial LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a complex EPC hydro power generation project in Phoenix, Arizona. The role is responsible for engineering, coordination, and technical oversight of the project’s mechanical scope, supporting design development, interface management, constructability, and construction and commissioning for large hydro facilities. These facilities may include underground powerhouses, shafts, tunnels, intake and outlet works, and surface facilities. Work must comply with customer requirements, applicable codes, and client engineering procedures. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with internal teams, design consultants, OEMs, and other external stakeholders to coordinate and assure the design. The position also supports construction execution, commissioning, and operational readiness, and provides guidance to independent engineering firms completing detailed design.

  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in MEP design for large power or industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting powerhouse or balance-of-plant systems on at least one medium- to large-scale hydropower or pumped-storage project.
  • Knowledge of current mechanical engineering and design computer applications, including CAD such as AutoCAD, and Microsoft Word and Excel for managing design reviews.
  • Broad knowledge of U.S. government compliance standards.
  • Strong knowledge of hydropower auxiliary and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Ability to communicate technical information orally and in writing, work effectively with individuals and teams, and present information.
