About The Position

As a mechanical engineer within Magnetics Engineering, you will help to specify materials and construction for PCB mounted magnetic components and design the fixtures and tools required to manufacture and test them. You will leverage SolidWorks CAD tools and in-house manufacturing capabilities to help bring your ideas to life, then put those designs through an entire suite of compliance and environmental testing to ensure the components live up to the quality standards SEL has become known for.

Requirements

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience in three or more of the following areas: electromechanical packaging design, heat transfer, materials and processes, mechanics, computer-aided design, electronic manufacturing techniques, production fixturing design
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong project management experience
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years SolidWorks experience
  • Industrial plastics design
  • Machined component design and DFM
  • Experience working with electronic components & materials
  • Experience working with UL or UL EIS

Responsibilities

  • Perform the following mechanical engineering functions: assembly design, plastic and metal part design, tolerance studies, design for manufacturability/assembly, component selection and specification, thermal analysis and design, mechanical shock and vibration analysis.
  • Qualify and monitor component and custom part vendors.
  • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Material. Provide accurate labor and material estimates.
  • Review, support, approve and provide recommendations for improvements to documentation, mechanical designs, and manufacturing process design.
  • Write test plans, conduct design tests, and review results.
  • Maintain current and accurate project notebooks.
  • Mentor ME Interns, Designers, and Associate ME’s.
  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

  • Other duties as assigned.
