Our thousands of employees help shape a better future at our global headquarters in Columbia, MD and locations worldwide.The Mechanical Engineer – Maintenance is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of mechanical systems and equipment within a chemical Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO). This role focuses on maintenance engineering, equipment reliability, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with site and company EHS and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience in mechanical integrity and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Experience with engineering software systems such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, data analysis tools, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 or more years of mechanical engineering experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment, process equipment, and piping systems.
  • Experience working in a CDMO or multi‑product batch manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with pressure vessels, pressure systems, and mechanical integrity programs.
  • Reliability engineering experience (RCM, FMEA, asset criticality).
  • Experience supporting PSM‑covered processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of process and utility equipment.
  • Support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to improve equipment uptime and lifecycle performance.
  • Diagnose mechanical failures, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Develop, review, and maintain maintenance procedures, job plans, and standard work instructions.
  • Support capital and expense projects related to equipment upgrades, replacements, and reliability improvements.
  • Review and approve mechanical drawings, specifications, vendor documentation, and change requests.
  • Support installation, commissioning, startup, and qualification of mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANSI, API, OSHA).
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Management (PSM), and hazard analysis activities.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, EHS, and Maintenance teams to support manufacturing needs.
  • Manage contractors and vendors, including scope development, execution oversight, and safety compliance.
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and internal assessments.
