About The Position

Altieri has provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering design services to architects and building owners for 65 years. We are a recognized industry leader, designing exciting and high-profile projects for iconic museums, galleries, theatre and performing arts venues, higher education buildings, libraries, parks, and historic projects around the country including: Carnegie Hall (NYC), Domino Park (NYC), Gansevoort Peninsula, Hudson River Park (NYC), The Getty Center (Los Angeles), The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), Museum of Ice Cream (NYC), National Aquarium (Baltimore), The National WWII Museum (New Orleans), Obama Presidential Center (Chicago), Smithsonian National Museum of American History (Washington DC). An Engineer works with more experienced engineers to design building Plumbing/Fire Protection systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, fire protection or architectural engineering, or similar field.
  • Has EIT certification or is working towards it.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Learns system design and calculations including: Heating and cooling load calculations, Pipe and duct pressure calculations, Psychrometric calculations, Ventilation air calculations.
  • Works with supervisor to layout ductwork, piping, and equipment utilizing Revit 3D software.
  • Produces drawing sets, including but not limited to, drawing notes, details, and single line riser diagrams.
  • Selects equipment, such as fans, diffusers, terminal boxes, fan coil units, and pumps.
  • Gains understanding of different mechanical system types.
  • Conducts preliminary review of submittments and RFIs.
  • Gains experience working on sustainable projects.
  • Gains familiarity with various certifications (LEED, etc.).
  • Collaborates with fellow mechanical engineers within their studio.
  • Asks meaningful questions.
  • Presents self in a professional manner when interacting with external stakeholders.
  • Familiarizes themselves with international and local building codes.
  • Learns energy codes.
  • Gains knowledge of ASHRAE handbooks and calculations.
  • Additional tasks as requested.
